•  Qualifications : Matric or equivalent recognized by H.P. Board/University. Recognized Degree in Ayurveda of not less than 05 years duration from a recognized Univesity/Board established by law or institution recognized by the Central/State Govt. /CCIM. Compulsory Rotatory Internship wherever required by the Central Council of Indian Medicine.

Desirable : Knowledge of customs/manner and dialects of H.P. and suitability for appointment in the peculiar conditions prevailing in the Pradesh..

Initially the Department of Health & Family Welfare was responsible for the management of all Institutions of  Ayurveda in the state,  besides allopathy. Ancient   Science Ayurveda is widely acceptabl e in  the State and the  way of  treatment is   affordable to the masses in the State.

Keeping these facts in view  the State  Government paid  special attention by creating a separate department called Department of Ayurveda as per the Rules of  Business on 7th November, 1984  bifurcating from  the Health  &  Family  Welfare Department. Since then Indian systems of Medicine and  Homoeopathy have played  historically a vital role in the Health  care systems  of  the  State of  Himachal  Pradesh. This department  includes the Ayurveda,  Yoga, Unani, Sidha and Homoeopathy systems of  medicines. In  the Govt. of India this department has now  been name AYUSH.
